About Us

The Fellowship of Blessed John Henry Newman is a community of mostly former Anglicans, now part of the Catholic Church, located in Victoria, BC Canada.  The group was formed by members of the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada seeking unity with the Roman Catholic Church under the terms of the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum Coetibus.  Blessed John Henry Newman was created in Dec 2011 and its members were received into the Roman Catholic church at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Victoria on Sunday the 15th of April, 2012 as part of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter.  Our Bishop, Steven Lopes, lives in Houston, Texas, also the home of the principal church in the Ordinariate, Our Lady of Walsingham.  In autumn 2013 the Canadian communities within the Ordinariate formed the Deanery of St John the Baptist, as part of the Ordinariate.

While any Catholic  may be a member of the parish, membership in the Ordinariate is open to former Anglicans and their families who are members of the Roman Catholic Church.  All are invited to attend.  To become an Ordinariate member if you are an Anglican or former Anglican you must first be received and confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church after a short period of instruction.  For further details please ask.

Holy Communion
As in any Roman Catholic Church, our communion is open to any confirmed Roman Catholic who is not conscious of grave sin, has fasted for at least one hour, and seeks to live in love and charity with their neighbours.
